I Stand For Gender Equality in Politics
IF Women are being celebrated then they should be represented in politics in the world as a whole.
If the women are being inclusive in politics they will play vital role in speeding the transforming process in the society tagged with transparent, tranquility, equity by giving them more rooms to explore their innovations, ideas that will provide positive solutions towards the challenge in economical growth in any given part of the world,
everydayspeople diary had an interactive session with an amazing personality who has impacted her immediate communities with her influence and still crave to do more if given the chance meet Jessica ishaku and her opinion on women in politics.
The under-representation of Young women constitutes a serious democratic deficit, which undermines the legitimacy of the contemporary democratic ideal. Party democracy and the promotion of Young women in decision-making positions are therefore important areas of action for our political actors.
Party democracy implies the equal representation of women and men in decision-making positions. It goes a step further than quotas as it is based on the idea that women are not a minority:In Nasarawa State, Young women represent more than half of the total numbers of electorates – a quantitative dimension.
The present Nasarawa State House of Assembly consists of 100% men. Likewise, the current members of the 13 local government legislative c council equally constitutes 100% men.
Women in Nasarawa State have been relegated to only appointive position despite their contribution to democratic ideals.
The current cabinet (Nasarawa state executive council) is constituted by just 30% of women representation which is less than 200% of the total numbers of members in the cabinet.
It is therefore, instructive to say; women need to wake up to the present realities of under-representation politically. The role of women both young and age cannot be undermined.
In Nasarawa State today, with the present political domination by the men folks, it is very difficult to wrestle power since it can not be freely given on the platter of gold to the women folks. There must be some level of consideration and deliberate effort to engaging more women who had shown commitment and willingness for governance in the state.
As a young lady, whom have bagged Msc in International Relations and Diplomacy, a one time miss Nasarawa State,a representative of National Association of Mada Student and now the leader of the largest political youth movement in Nasarawa State (Kwantamania Connect). I owes the entire women a duty to continue to advocate for more inclusion in politics, strategic Engagement and decision making processes.
Governance, like security is everyone's business, we must put all hands on deck to promote and sustain our nascent democracy. Myself and members of the Kwantamania Connect have been at the forefront of promoting good governance and issue base campaigns.
Our yearnings and aspirations has always been centred on promoting a cordial and harmonious co-existence among all citizenry as no development will ever take place in any atmosphere of rancour.
